How Brummagem became Birmingham and then became Brum.

People from Birmingham are known as Brummies, a term derived from the city's nickname of "Brum", which originates from the city's old name, Brummagem, which in turn is thought to have derived from "Bromwich-ham". The Brummie accent and dialect are particularly distinctive.

The terms 'Brummie' and 'Brum' are how we describe ourselves and our city but did you know how we got those terms?

Birmingham was once known as 'Bermingeham' later 'Brummagem' and then 'Brum' and locals are called 'Brummies'

We however are the 'Barmy' Brummies and Barmy is a well used term for being a bit mad or insane, as in 'he's driving me barmy!'

Keep coming back to find other Brummie sayings featured on our products, like 'alright bab' or 'go play up your own end' etc

Continuing our Brummie playlist here's one from UB40 a personal favourite of mine :-)
