Our resident Photographer and Artist Karen Cross photographed Birmingham city centre before the Old Library was demolished to capture the City as it was when she was growing up. Karen loves Brutalist architecture and the library was a good example of that, Paradise Forum and Victoria Square made up a really good mix of styles which made that part of the city centre unique.

While the photographs are striking Karen decided to add some colour, influenced by pop art and the vivid colours in pop art Karen wanted to give Birmingham a new look and atmosphere in her Art pieces.

By editing the photographs in close detail Karen painstakingly gave the photographs bright colours and illustrated the diversity of the city, the colours flow into each other just as the communities within Birmingham blend and flow alongside each other.
